My Bio

Birthdate and Place
My name is Brianna Barnes and  I was born February 5, 1995 at Grossmont Hospital around 8 pm. That morning my mom,Shelley Barnes, woke and realized she was going into labor. She called my grandfather, Jim Barnes, and aunt, Kim Barnes, who came and picked her up at about 5am and just dropped her off at the hospital because they had to go work the swap meet.  The day I was born was also the day of my mom’s baby shower. She had to go to the hospital and not even attend her baby shower. The baby shower was not cancelled though. Everyone still went, ate all my mom’s favorite foods, and played all the games that had been planned for that day. Later that day they brought my mom some of the food that was left over. My mom was mad at the doctors becuase they told her she could not eat any of her favorite foods that all of her friends had just brought her. The doctors tried to stop me from being born by giving my mom special medicine because I was 5 weeks early. When I was born I was 5 pounds 5 ounces. Immediately after I was born my mom order a pizza. The next day I went home, when I went home I weighed 4 pounds 15 ounces. My mom even had to special order all my diapers because I was so tiny.

Family Members
I would have to say that my family is a pretty big close knit family.  I have a younger sister who is 5 years younger than I am. My sisters name is Brooke Barnes. My mother went to Grossmont High School and from there started working for my grandfather Jim Barnes. My grandpa owns a lawn equipment store. My mom met my father there. My dad’s name is Edward Barrigan, he went to El Capitan. My father has not always been around my whole life. He started hanging around the wrong crowd and got into some heavy drugs. My dad went to prison for many years and tried to come back into my life. By that time I wanted nothing to do with him. I now only see him on holidays for big family events.Without my grandparents Jim and Judy Barnes I would have nothing. My grandma is someone I consider to be one of my best friends. She loves to spoil me but I am so grateful for all that she has gotten me. My grandpa is the person i look up to most in my life because he is the hardest worker I have ever met. He has worked his whole life to be where he is at now in life. Some other important people in my life are my uncles, they without any problems helped raise my sister and I when my father was not there to. My family is the most important thing in my life.

Childhood and school life
My child life was a really good childhood. I have the most amazing family that has raised me to who I am now. I was fortunate enough to be blessed with many opportunities such as cheer and dance. I had chances to travel outside of the U.S with my family on many cruises. I am the oldest child out of my entire family. I now have 10 cousins that are all under the age of 10. I am super close with 3 of my younger cousins, Bryce, Cameron, and Cody. These three boys I consider to be more like brothers than cousins. I attended Flying Hills Elementary School from kindergarten through 6th grade, this is where I met my best friend Sierra. From there I went to Parkway Middle School. After that I went to West Hills High School.

Hobbies, Interests, and Activities
From the very beginning I have always been involved in dance, tumbling, and cheer. Since I was three years old I have pretty much grown up in the Dance studio. I competed in dance competitions all over .Once I began tumbling I realized that I enjoyed it way more than dance and that's what I wanted to be involved in more! I started competitive cheerleading when I was about 7 years old and have been a cheerleader ever since then. Once I was going into high school I tried out for the cheerleading team, as a freshman I made JV cheer. I loved it so much I decided to try out again the next year. As a sophomore I made varsity and have been on varsity ever sense then. Now I am a senior and am currently Varsity cheer captain. For as long as I can remember cheer has been my life. I hope I can continue cheering in college. Besides cheerleading I really enjoy being active. I love going to the gym and working out, whether its outside, hiking or swimming in a pool. I'm in the gym at least 5 times a week, with my personal trainer. Most people there know who I am and call me the little gym rat as do my closest friends. I am such an active person today because of my family, my mom especially, because she loves to work out just as much as I do.

Anecdotes
In my group of friends I’m pretty much the leader. Being a leader comes extremely natural to me. For example if my friends ever have an idea for us to do when we are hanging out, they always ask me if that sounds like a good idea or if we should do it or not. If we decided on doing that one thing I get put in charge immediately. I'm in charge of figuring out when we are going and who is all going. One time my friends and I went to six flags and I planned the whole trip. The morning of I got up and made all of our lunches packed the cooler and loaded the car with everything we needed. Once we got there they freaked out thinking they had forgot something but being who I am I knew they would and had packed it for them. I also tend to be the mom of my group of friends. I’m the most responsible and dependable one out of them all. For example one night they all decided to go out to a friend’s birthday party and did not think about how they were going to get home. They called me late at night asking me to come and pick them up. Without any hesitation I got out of bed and went to pick my friends up and brought them back to my house to sleep. Whenever my friends have a problem or need advice I am always the first person they go to for advice. I am that friend that will drop any to listen to their problems.

Career
For as long as I can remember I have been a physically active person. I love being at the gym and working out, so I decided that after high school I want to major in Kinesiology. If I major in kinesiology my career options are extremely wide. The two careers I have been looking into the most has been being a personal trainer or physical therapist. No matter what job I decide I want to make sure it involves me helping people stay healthy and active. Right now I have a personal trainer and she has been a mentor to me. Every day I go and see her we talk about different schooling and programs that would be good for me. She studied in kinesiology and is now going to nursing school. She has been so helpful in helping figure out how I can accomplish all the goals I have set. I look up to her because I can see myself following in her footsteps when I’m older.
