Coraline Movie Review

Coraline, the touching, funny, and even a little creepy stop motion film will keep your eyes peeled on the screen. The movie Coraline directed by Henry Selick, is a movie about a young girl named Coraline played by Dakota Fanning, gets her life turned  a little upside down. The movie takes place in Ashland, Oregon where Coraline and her parents, who are played by John Hodgman and Teri Hatcher, move into the Pink Palace Apartments.

This movie starts out with a young, bored, adventure seeking Coraline you goes exploring through her new home. Coraline finds a secret door, but to her disappointment the door has been sealed up and has bricks covering anything that could be behind it. That night Coraline goes to bed just as unhappy as before, because she does not like her new home and has only made one friend named Wybie and his little black cat. Once Coraline falls asleep the mysterious hidden door becomes a portal to a while new world. This whole new world is everything  Coraline could ever dream of and much more. To Coraline everything in this new world is perfect and beautiful, even her "other parents". When she goes to into this new world she is introduced to what looks like her mom and dad but they have buttons as eyes.Coraline calls them her "other mother" and "other father". Coraline started to come to thus new world every night to see her other mother who always had the most Delicious food and gave her the best presents. Coraline begins falling in love with this new world, but what does this mean for her real mom and dad? Is this new world really what it seems?

Henry Selick the director of this film and Neil Gaiman the writer of Coraline worked countless hours with the help of many to make this movie the best it could be. Everything in this movie was handmade! Every person working on this film had to be extremely dedicated and very creative. Its amazing just how much work goes into a stop motion film.

Overall i thought Coraline was a great movie. It had a great hidden message and kept my eyes glued to the screen the whole movie. I would not recommend this movie to younger kids because at times it can be a bit scary. This is definitely a movie i would want to see again.

  1. First thing I would like to say is that your first sentence is great and really makes me want to keep reading! Next thing is that, I would have liked more opinion and your point of view in the last paragraph so I could know more about how you feel. I really like all the pictures you have, good choices! But, I think the links should be more spread out and instead of using them all to link to actors and actresses names, maybe you could link to something else? Your summary is a little short but your wording was great and I liked how you spread out the review. I would have liked a little bit more background information to know more about the film but I thought how you laid it out was really good and I think you did a really good job!

  2. Overall your blog was great! The opening really pulled me in and made me want to keep reading. Getting into your second paragraph you have a lot of mistakes starting with the first sentence, and as it goes on you have some grammar and punctuation errors. Your third paragraph about the making was very good! You closed the review with a very strong conclusion that sounds very good!
Over all great job, but you are missing one body paragraph on another aspect of filming.

  3. Make sure to proof read next time because some words were accidentally misspelled. The summary was written very well and had great vocabulary. Next time remember to add captions to the pictures to explain what is happening. Also, try to add more opinion and the other sides opinion to your conclusion. Overall, everything flowed very well and it was very easy to understand.
